The second disadvantage is where your body will be positioned if there is a kickback. With a right blade saw generally your body will be off to the side of the saw, reducing the chance a kickback will hit you. With a left blade saw, you move the blade closer and so your body is more in line with the saw if it kicks back. Also, on a left blade saw, your left arm will have to cross over the top of the saw blade if you are cutting with your right hand on the trigger. Bosch CS5 Rip Fence

Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
One of the best things about the Bosch CS5 Power Saw is its left-blade design. There are a lot of people who do not realize this yet but the main reason why the blade is on the left side is because it will be easier for people, particularly those who are right handed to make use of the blade when they are working. It worked so well for me so I am sure that those who are going to make use of that too will also find it easy.

The overall build quality, ease of use, performance and the ability to do more than any other handheld circular saw makes Bosch cs5 more useful. The left blade design makes it possible through a specific action for the clearest or visible line of sight for right-handed users. This device is made by combining materials and parts with durability in mind. With Bosch quality, this tool will withstand tough job site environment. Bosch CS5 Saw
This saw replaced another Bosch that was dropped 4 feet and landed on concrete. The base plate was twisted and the blade was a quarter inch out of alignment. Repair parts were no longer available for it. Bought this one as I am left handed and was excited to get a left handed model instead of a right sided one. Based on other reviews, I was concerned about the base plate flatness and blade alignment to the baseplate edge. When I set my new one up I found that the baseplate was flat and the blade alignment was spot on. I docked the review one star for two reasons, first, the bevel cut needed adjustment which was easy to do and second, I was disappointment that the saw did not come with either a case or a bag. Finally, a word on using the line guide. For a normal 90° cut, you should use the left side of the notch as shown here in the diagram. For bevel cuts within the range 45° to 56° you should use the right side. Because saw blades vary in type and thickness, I strongly urge you to make a sample cut on a scrap piece of lumber to check the line of cut you’ll actually get. And remember, face the good side of the lumber down to ensure minimum splintering.

When I was looking for a circular saw, I was looking for more than something that would make efficient wooden cuts. I was looking for something that would need minimal maintenance, robust, powerful and light enough to bring anywhere I go. This particular saw is by far, the one that meets all those categories. It is extremely lightweight, powerful, and has a pretty solid build to it. Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw
As mentioned earlier, one of the things that Bosch boasts about their CS5 is the left blade design. This robust, and simply powerful machine makes it more convenient and easier usually for right-handed users. This feature allows the cutter to have a direct line of sight whenever cutting, which means it is less prone to accidents, and its precision is unmatched.

The SKIL 5280 7-1/4 inch circular saw is a great partner for those people who need powerful circular saws with advanced features. It comes with 15A motor that provides the power you need to easily cut lumber. The single beam laser guide is equipped for the sole purpose of accuracy while the line of cut is kept clear and sawdust-free by the integrated dust blower. The bevel makes a positive stop at 45 degrees giving various cut options. The blades are made easily replaceable by a spindle lock and on-tool wrench.
This is a great feature because often we assume once we’ve released the trigger the saw is no longer running and therefore no longer dangerous. It’s really easy to put your hands in the wrong place or to set the saw down while the blade is still moving, and that’s an ugly scenario. An electric brake will drastically reduce the chances of this happening.

The tool cuts through 2-7/16 In. of material at 90°, ensuring a high level of productivity. Bosch CS5 Price
Of course, a circular saw is a great solution whenever you are looking to cut materials in half the time that it normally would take. However, that is not enough. You also have to take into consideration its build quality, functionality, and usability. Below are some recommended tips that you help you avoid the most common mistakes when choosing a circular saw:
I was very disappointed in the blade depth locking mechanism and the baseplate as well with it's curved bottom edge making it hard to run against a thin straight edge. Because of the locking mechanism there's no strength between the saw and the base. Loved my left handed Porter Cable much better but couldn't find one. I own many quality Bosch tools but this one is not in their league.
While they sound cool and are fun to brag about, I haven’t personally found them more than slightly useful for setting up a cut initially. Not only are they only nominally accurate, but once I’ve begun cutting, I’m too focused on paying attention to the guide on the shoe to really be able to use the laser. Combine that with accuracy problems on the lasers and I personally don’t get a lot of mileage out of them.

“Great power, won’t bog down even if you’re slightly off a straight line. This saw will rival your giant framing saw and save your arm due to it’s lower weight. Too early to tell how all the adjustments perform and how the table holds up to pro use, but early signs look great! I bought this saw for precision work since the blade is on the left (I’m right handed), but it instantly became my daily use saw; my framing saw is resting!”
Bosch CS10 7-1/4 In. Circular Saw The Bosch CS10 Circular Saw has a 15-amp motor that can execute the most difficult applications and can drive through 2-7/16 In. of material at 90°, delivering fast, deep cuts. It weighs only 10.2 Lbs., but it delivers professional cuts at a variety of different angles. It is a solidly built tool, with a magnesium footplate for steadiness and precision, an anti-snag lower guard for ease of cut and an easy-to-read depth gauge. It provides an unobstructed view of the cut line, with a blower to keep dust clear, for more exact cuts. The CS10 also features a 56° bevel capacity, along with positive detents at 22.5° and 45° for working on a wide variety of projects. Bosch CS5 Rip Fence

I bought the CS5 Circular Saw in May of 2015, and after two months of sporadic use the carbon brushes and armature needed to be replaced. It was repaired -- under warranty -- at the Bosch service facility in Anaheim, California. After another two months of normal / typical use, the carbon brushes and armature need to be replaced again. WTF? Is there an issue with the quality of the components Bosch uses for this particular saw? For five months of ownership and use, I expected something a bit more reliable. Not many choices for blade-left circular saws that are affordable, so I'll get this CS5 fixed again while it's under warranty. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
One real complaint; when you're cutting right-handed, the dust is directed right into your shoes and nailbags. The blade-left saw doesn't have a Bosch dust chute accessory available, and this saw really needs one. When you're cutting a post from right to left, the dust is projected straight up, into your face and eyes. Bosch needs a dust chute for the CS-5. I tried the dust chute for cs-10 and cs20, but it doesn't really attach to the CS-5 without major modification. It's a short-coming.

You’ll find a circular saw in nearly every Pros arsenal. Corded models offer nearly infinite power as long as electricity is hooked up or there’s a generator nearby. And with most models offering a 15-amp motor, you get reliably solid power. Even the DIY models can make an effective cut with decent speed using an excellent blade. Around the country, these benefits make Pros keep choosing the cord over cordless convenience. Plus, corded tools don’t force you to stick with one brand’s battery platform – you can get the best tool in each class no matter who makes it.

Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
Can a saw be sporty? That's how this feels to me when I'm using it. It's pretty basic as far as features and it's also very well thought out. I do wish it had the same baseplate and positive detents on depth and angle adjustments as the CS10 but those are not in any way a hinderance to the saw. Everything seems to be in just the right place with the controls and handles. A left blade saw for right hand user is a really nice feature for the way I cut. In fact, I sometimes hold right blade saws left handed when using them for cuts. I don't have any problems with the dust chute blowing dust onto me because I happen to stand behind where it blows on shorter cutting situations and I stand directly to the side of the saw in longer ripping and crosscutting situations such as making cuts on sheet goods and then the dust blows more behind me. Either way, it blows the dust more downward than most saws I've used.
