The Bosch CS5 has an anti-snag lower guard which allows you to continue cutting without having to retract the guard, which is a pretty nice feature for seamless transitions or tricky cuts. The most notable feature is that it is a left-blade saw which some people prefer over a right-blade saw whether they are right-handed or left-handed. A left-blade saw with a right-handed person allows the operator to better see their cut-line. However, since the CS5 lacks a dust blower, it might end up as a wash.
Milwaukee got its start in 1924 with their first version of a portable, ¼-inch drill known as the Hole-Shooter. Milwaukee is a brand perhaps best known for their professional quality, heavy duty tools but they’ve also made their mark in the world of tools by innovation of new products such as the Sawzall, revolutionizing the 7 ¼-inch circular saw, and being the first to utilize Lithium-Ion batteries to power their tools.
One of the best things about the Bosch CS5 Power Saw is its left-blade design. There are a lot of people who do not realize this yet but the main reason why the blade is on the left side is because it will be easier for people, particularly those who are right handed to make use of the blade when they are working. It worked so well for me so I am sure that those who are going to make use of that too will also find it easy. Bosch CS5 Manual

Another thing to consider is the functionality of the saw. Is the safety mechanism of the saw appropriate? Is the operating mechanism easy to access? When you cut wood, the shavings and dust will go spewing everywhere. Does the saw offer a dust chute to prevent those shavings and dust from going to your face? These are just some of the questions you need to ask before picking the right circular saw for you. Bosch CS5 Review

During my construction and woodworking jobs, I often found myself using the circular saw more and more. I use it to cut hardwood that I use to make pieces of furniture, and house parts like windows, doors, etc. However, most of the blades of the circular saws that I've been using tend to wobble during prolonged use. There was also a time when the circular saw wasn't able to output the necessary power to make an efficient cut on the wood. Bosch CS5 Price

As a deck builder, I use this saw EVERY day, cutting extremely hard woods like ipe and garrapa. This saw, like all 15amp, circular saws can handle the wood and any kind of cut. I use only top quality Diablo blades, and regularly perform finger rips and compound miters without any issues with the motor bogging down and blade deflection. I also regularly have to rip wet PT wood, and this saw handles it all fine. This is a great saw and a great price, the blade-left design provides excellent line of sight when cutting with your right hand. Very lite weight and powerful, with all cast-metal parts and a tape on the foot. I'd like a detent at the common bevel cuts (22.5 and 45) but it's fine without it. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of strength to get the plate back to square (0 degree bevel)

The best circular saw overall is the Makita 5007MGA. It doesn’t have everything we’re looking for (most of us are blade-left guys), but it has all the other key components. It blends fast blade speed with deep cutting and takes advantage of magnesium to come in well under 11 pounds. On the feature side, it has the blade brake we consider a requirement for top Pro consideration, solid construction, 56 degrees of beveling with stops, and a cutline blower.

I bought the CS5 Circular Saw in May of 2015, and after two months of sporadic use the carbon brushes and armature needed to be replaced. It was repaired -- under warranty -- at the Bosch service facility in Anaheim, California. After another two months of normal / typical use, the carbon brushes and armature need to be replaced again. WTF? Is there an issue with the quality of the components Bosch uses for this particular saw? For five months of ownership and use, I expected something a bit more reliable. Not many choices for blade-left circular saws that are affordable, so I'll get this CS5 fixed again while it's under warranty.

Depth of cut locking mechanism broke 8 cuts in. Would not hold shoe in place. Really disappointing. Also two of the eight cuts snagged towards the end. One more thing about the locking mechanism; When I tried to tighten the plastic handle and screw, the screw striped a bit. Very poorly made. Was hoping for a better run from the German Company. Frustrating. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review

It lacks of some features that can be found in cheaper models. There is no safety switch. It can be accidentally started just by pulling the trigger. It also does not come with an electric brake. Furthermore, rip fence is not included in the basic set.. You need to order this item separately. Some users reported that trying to find a rip face that fits this model had been a challenge. You can also make bevel cuts (angled across the edge of the wood) by adjusting the bevel settings on your saw and plunge cuts. With a little practice, you’ll even be able to manage miter cuts (angled across the face of the wood) and if you really feel like stretching your limits go ahead and try making some dadoes, rabbets, and lap joints with multiple passes.
