The saw blade of the cs5 is positioned on the left side of the power tool. This means that right-handed users will be placed to the left of the tool when holding it in the correct position and therefore you will have direct line of site of where the blade is cutting. Until you’ve tried this the other way round, you won’t appreciate how useful this is! Having a clear view of where the blade is cutting ensures a more accurate cut all round. Bosch CS5 Case

As a deck builder, I use this saw EVERY day, cutting extremely hard woods like ipe and garrapa. This saw, like all 15amp, circular saws can handle the wood and any kind of cut. I use only top quality Diablo blades, and regularly perform finger rips and compound miters without any issues with the motor bogging down and blade deflection. I also regularly have to rip wet PT wood, and this saw handles it all fine. This is a great saw and a great price, the blade-left design provides excellent line of sight when cutting with your right hand. Very lite weight and powerful, with all cast-metal parts and a tape on the foot. I'd like a detent at the common bevel cuts (22.5 and 45) but it's fine without it. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of strength to get the plate back to square (0 degree bevel) Bosch CS5 Review

One of the best things about the Bosch CS5 Power Saw is its left-blade design. There are a lot of people who do not realize this yet but the main reason why the blade is on the left side is because it will be easier for people, particularly those who are right handed to make use of the blade when they are working. It worked so well for me so I am sure that those who are going to make use of that too will also find it easy. Bosch CS5 Review
"The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced a proposed rule aimed at curbing lung cancer, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and kidney disease in America's workers. The proposal seeks to lower worker exposure to crystalline silica, which kills hundreds of workers and sickens thousands more each year.
So, all the 6 ½-inch and 7 ¼ -inch saws will be able to make a cut through a 2-inch piece of lumber at 90°. Things get a little trickier when we talk about beveled cuts. At 45° all the 7 ¼-inch saws will make it through with some room to spare but 6 ½-inch saws are cutting it really close. Literally. If you have a saw that goes beyond 45°, it can be hit or miss as to whether or not you’ll be able to make that cut in 2x material.
If you follow cordless tools, you’ll know that they rarely stay on the market more than a year without some sort of update. But some of the circular saws have been out more than 15 years and are still chewing up wood reliably. While not every saw we looked at takes home a top recommendation, each have their place. All of us who are into construction or woodworking have our own reasons for buying a good circular saw. We may use it for making pieces of furniture, or for heavy duty construction. The main reason, however, still remains the same--we need a circular saw that is not only affordable, but also durable and portable. As such, we require this kind of saw that strikes a good balance in all of the aforementioned criteria. Bosch CS5 Rip Fence

The Bosch CS5 is a reliable tool for both DIYers and professionals looking for a solidly built circular saw. It stands out in a competitive arena with its high-end design, quality and power. However, this 7 1/4-inch circular saw has a couple shortcomings that keep it from being the best in our review, including a lack of positive bevel stops and an awkward, though effective, dust chute.

But therein lies the only significant con of a corded circular saw, the cord. This means you’ll be limited as to where you can do your work by the maximum length of your extension cord. Normally, this isn’t much of a problem but when it is, there is next to nothing you can do about it. A good extension cord will also add to the overall cost of the saw you purchase unless you already have one. CS5 Bosch

The most important part of the saw selection process is its durability. Whatever saw you pick, it must be durable enough to withstand the ruggedness of normal use. During selection, try to ask the hardware attendant if there is any possibility that you could do a durability test on the saw. Feel the saw in your hand. Try to drop it from knee height and see if it comes apart right away. Saws need to be tough since they are construction tools after all. See if the blade assembly is stable during operation and will not fall apart during operation.

Another thing to consider is the functionality of the saw. Is the safety mechanism of the saw appropriate? Is the operating mechanism easy to access? When you cut wood, the shavings and dust will go spewing everywhere. Does the saw offer a dust chute to prevent those shavings and dust from going to your face? These are just some of the questions you need to ask before picking the right circular saw for you. Bosch CS5 Review

This particular Bosch saw works perfectly, its easy to change the blades, the plunge depth and the angle of the cuts. I had not issues with any play in any of the settings on the saw (I've had this issue with some other saws which I've used). The saw cuts straight and true and being left-sighted makes it alot easier to see your markings and to make great straight long cuts.

Whether it’s new construction or maintenance, many jobs require drilling holes in concrete. Selecting the right tool for the job is critical, but making the right choice can be complicated. Types of tools, bit holding systems and drill bit types, as well as nature of the job that needs to be done and availability of electric power – these are some of the variables that need to be taken into consideration. Bosch CS5 Review

I was very disappointed in the blade depth locking mechanism and the baseplate as well with it's curved bottom edge making it hard to run against a thin straight edge. Because of the locking mechanism there's no strength between the saw and the base. Loved my left handed Porter Cable much better but couldn't find one. I own many quality Bosch tools but this one is not in their league.

Dust collection has become a big issue, with OSHA looking closely at silica dust regulations. (You can read a primer about concrete grinding and OSHA here.) And, according to Cop Tool and Jay Amstutz, Bosch has a great new solution with the CSG15 Concrete Surfacing Grinder with Dedicated Dust Collection Shroud. The Bosch CSG15 is a next-generation surface grinder, replacing the Bosch 1773AK.
Most Pros are pretty set in their ways when it comes to blade-left or blade-right circular saws. And it’s not simply a “righties want blade-left and lefties want blade-right” discussion. Clint and I are both righties – I prefer blade-left and he prefers blade-right. However, direct drive (sidewinder) circular saws like these are traditionally blade-right, but a few are bucking the trend. So whichever you like, here’s a quick list of where each one falls. A few users have commented on this model being slightly noisy, but interestingly most of those mentioned it in passing, not as a criticism since they were so pleased with the performance. In fact ICe went on to say “it is kind of noisy but hey, better to hear the power on this monster that to have a wimpy quiet one right? ^_^ Buy it, you wont regret it. ”
Considering the best circular saw is a little easier than breaking down the incredible number of cordless saws out there, but most brands still have most than one model on the market. We chose only saws that have a 15-amp motor for consideration and went with the newest models from there. We looked at blade speed, watts out or horsepower (where available), bevel capacity and stops, blade orientation, other features, construction, and price. Bosch Model CS5

When I was looking for a circular saw, I was looking for more than something that would make efficient wooden cuts. I was looking for something that would need minimal maintenance, robust, powerful and light enough to bring anywhere I go. This particular saw is by far, the one that meets all those categories. It is extremely lightweight, powerful, and has a pretty solid build to it. Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw

Why worm drive over a traditional circular saw? I’ll tell you why. Because it’s finally affordable to have a circular saw that is super tough and has the torque to make those difficult cuts. Because why choose a weaker circular saw when you can have a workhorse worm drive circular saw for a comparable price. The SKILSAW SPT77WML Circular Saw is a no-brainer really.

However, some do the job better than others. For instance, some of the 6 ½-inch blade saws may not even make a 45° or better cut through 2x material and even if they had the depth, they may not have the oomph to get it done. There is a rare need to go over 45° but if that’s something you anticipate you could need, then you’ll want to make sure you find a saw with that capability. Bosch CS5 Case

All you have to do is unpack this saw to know you no longer have another one of those throw aways.  I use it for making long cuts (mostly 8 ft) in 3/4 inch hardwood plycor plywood.  This saw simply does not bog down even when pushing it hard.  It does not overheat and it does not make that high pitched whine that most saws make.  It looks like quality, feels like quality, and performs like a true champion.  And for the first time, I can actually see where the blade is without craning my neck over the saw.  It is a keeper
Circular saws that have worm drive gearing are popular choices in the West and the Midwest, according to Fine Homebuilder magazine. In the East, sidewinders are the circ saws of choice. With the different gear configurations come different strengths (and weaknesses), so many professionals including carpenters pack one or several of each kind of circular saw, to use for different applications. Hilti is literally a rebranded makita….they have the exact same parts. Just look at the bevel quick set control. If you see them side by side you’ll know. Also, I have found some of the Makita’s to have guards that are tough to start when cutting. Can get annoying when they constantly resist opening. The dewalts often come from the factory with the tables crooked. Hold a framing square along the blade and check if it lines up with the front guide detente. The table is often out 3/16th. Dewalt knows about the problem but doesn’t care.
Having said that, this particular circular saw is geared towards consumers who are looking for a powerful, yet cost-efficient machine. If you’re a value-conscious consumer, this particular model might just be of interest to you. This tool is simple to use, which means that even a first-time user will be able to operate safely this without all the hassle. It is simple to use, not to mention that there are no learning curves involved before you can fully operate the machine. Its left blade design is one of the features that the brand boasts.
I bought the CS5 Circular Saw in May of 2015, and after two months of sporadic use the carbon brushes and armature needed to be replaced. It was repaired -- under warranty -- at the Bosch service facility in Anaheim, California. After another two months of normal / typical use, the carbon brushes and armature need to be replaced again. WTF? Is there an issue with the quality of the components Bosch uses for this particular saw? For five months of ownership and use, I expected something a bit more reliable. Not many choices for blade-left circular saws that are affordable, so I'll get this CS5 fixed again while it's under warranty.
