The saw has good run out (the blade doesn't wobble), has plenty of power and will cut a perfectly straight line freehand using the blade mark on the base. If you try to use a guide like a square, the front and rear corners of the base cause the saw to deviate from a straight line. If they would have put a descent plate on this saw, it would be a 5 star. Bosch CS5 7-1/4-In Circular Saw

Depth of cut locking mechanism broke 8 cuts in. Would not hold shoe in place. Really disappointing. Also two of the eight cuts snagged towards the end. One more thing about the locking mechanism; When I tried to tighten the plastic handle and screw, the screw striped a bit. Very poorly made. Was hoping for a better run from the German Company. Frustrating. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review

Why worm drive over a traditional circular saw? I’ll tell you why. Because it’s finally affordable to have a circular saw that is super tough and has the torque to make those difficult cuts. Because why choose a weaker circular saw when you can have a workhorse worm drive circular saw for a comparable price. The SKILSAW SPT77WML Circular Saw is a no-brainer really.
I bought the CS5 Circular Saw in May of 2015, and after two months of sporadic use the carbon brushes and armature needed to be replaced. It was repaired -- under warranty -- at the Bosch service facility in Anaheim, California. After another two months of normal / typical use, the carbon brushes and armature need to be replaced again. WTF? Is there an issue with the quality of the components Bosch uses for this particular saw? For five months of ownership and use, I expected something a bit more reliable. Not many choices for blade-left circular saws that are affordable, so I'll get this CS5 fixed again while it's under warranty. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
As mentioned earlier, one of the things that Bosch boasts about their CS5 is the left blade design. This robust, and simply powerful machine makes it more convenient and easier usually for right-handed users. This feature allows the cutter to have a direct line of sight whenever cutting, which means it is less prone to accidents, and its precision is unmatched.

The Bosch CS5 is a reliable tool for both DIYers and professionals looking for a solidly built circular saw. It stands out in a competitive arena with its high-end design, quality and power. However, this 7 1/4-inch circular saw has a couple shortcomings that keep it from being the best in our review, including a lack of positive bevel stops and an awkward, though effective, dust chute. Plus, corded tools don’t force you to stick with one brand’s battery platform – you can get the best tool in each class no matter who makes it. CS5 Bosch Circular Saw
But therein lies the only significant con of a corded circular saw, the cord. This means you’ll be limited as to where you can do your work by the maximum length of your extension cord. Normally, this isn’t much of a problem but when it is, there is next to nothing you can do about it. A good extension cord will also add to the overall cost of the saw you purchase unless you already have one. Bosch CS5 Saw
