You’ll find a circular saw in nearly every Pros arsenal. Corded models offer nearly infinite power as long as electricity is hooked up or there’s a generator nearby. And with most models offering a 15-amp motor, you get reliably solid power. Even the DIY models can make an effective cut with decent speed using an excellent blade. Around the country, these benefits make Pros keep choosing the cord over cordless convenience. Plus, corded tools don’t force you to stick with one brand’s battery platform – you can get the best tool in each class no matter who makes it.

Bosch CS10 7-1/4 In. Circular Saw The Bosch CS10 Circular Saw has a 15-amp motor that can execute the most difficult applications and can drive through 2-7/16 In. of material at 90°, delivering fast, deep cuts. It weighs only 10.2 Lbs., but it delivers professional cuts at a variety of different angles. It is a solidly built tool, with a magnesium footplate for steadiness and precision, an anti-snag lower guard for ease of cut and an easy-to-read depth gauge. It provides an unobstructed view of the cut line, with a blower to keep dust clear, for more exact cuts. The CS10 also features a 56° bevel capacity, along with positive detents at 22.5° and 45° for working on a wide variety of projects. Bosch CS5 Rip Fence

Another thing to consider is the functionality of the saw. Is the safety mechanism of the saw appropriate? Is the operating mechanism easy to access? When you cut wood, the shavings and dust will go spewing everywhere. Does the saw offer a dust chute to prevent those shavings and dust from going to your face? These are just some of the questions you need to ask before picking the right circular saw for you. Bosch CS5 Review
Can a saw be sporty? That's how this feels to me when I'm using it. It's pretty basic as far as features and it's also very well thought out. I do wish it had the same baseplate and positive detents on depth and angle adjustments as the CS10 but those are not in any way a hinderance to the saw. Everything seems to be in just the right place with the controls and handles. A left blade saw for right hand user is a really nice feature for the way I cut. In fact, I sometimes hold right blade saws left handed when using them for cuts. I don't have any problems with the dust chute blowing dust onto me because I happen to stand behind where it blows on shorter cutting situations and I stand directly to the side of the saw in longer ripping and crosscutting situations such as making cuts on sheet goods and then the dust blows more behind me. Either way, it blows the dust more downward than most saws I've used.

Why worm drive over a traditional circular saw? I’ll tell you why. Because it’s finally affordable to have a circular saw that is super tough and has the torque to make those difficult cuts. Because why choose a weaker circular saw when you can have a workhorse worm drive circular saw for a comparable price. The SKILSAW SPT77WML Circular Saw is a no-brainer really.
Before starting a cut, it is important to set the proper blade depth since it will minimize kickback. The tool is equipped with a depth adjustment lever that will enable you to easily adjust the depth of cut. When the blade is set at 45 degrees, it offers 1-7/8 inches depth of cut. At 50 degrees you get 1-5/8″ maximum cut. The depth of cut at 90 degrees is 2-7/16″.
The saw blade of the cs5 is positioned on the left side of the power tool. This means that right-handed users will be placed to the left of the tool when holding it in the correct position and therefore you will have direct line of site of where the blade is cutting. Until you’ve tried this the other way round, you won’t appreciate how useful this is! Having a clear view of where the blade is cutting ensures a more accurate cut all round. Milwaukee got its start in 1924 with their first version of a portable, ¼-inch drill known as the Hole-Shooter. Milwaukee is a brand perhaps best known for their professional quality, heavy duty tools but they’ve also made their mark in the world of tools by innovation of new products such as the Sawzall, revolutionizing the 7 ¼-inch circular saw, and being the first to utilize Lithium-Ion batteries to power their tools.

You can also make bevel cuts (angled across the edge of the wood) by adjusting the bevel settings on your saw and plunge cuts. With a little practice, you’ll even be able to manage miter cuts (angled across the face of the wood) and if you really feel like stretching your limits go ahead and try making some dadoes, rabbets, and lap joints with multiple passes. If you are planning to get yourself a new corded circular saw, the Bosch CS5 can be an excellent choice. Although the 7-1/4-Inch circ saw cannot be considered as a low priced tool, many buyers have said that the price is a bargain considering the features that it offers. Here is an unbiased review of the left blade circular saw to help you decide whether buying it is the right move for you. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review

Immediately after opening, I set the included blade aside and installed a fresh Freud blade, which I highly recommend. I found a use for the kit blade when demolishing a 100-year-old roof, which consisted of several layers of shingles, flashing, nails, and solid oak supports. Though this is not the intended use of the saw or blade, it got the job done after my reciprocating saw failed.

The proposal seeks to lower worker exposure to crystalline silica, which kills hundreds of workers and sickens thousands more each year. CS5 Bosch
The Bosch CS5 power circular saw is a great all around tool that is capable and delivers on quality. I used this power saw to help construct a gazebo in the back yard and have brought it on multiple job and its been great, particularly as someone who is right handed and has used other inferior circular saws. The seven and a half inch blade is what I wanted, and the power that this circular saw packs is more than enough to saw through every possible type of wood you could select or encounter. In addition, Bosch has made a circular saw that gives you a great line of sight and is built to last! This is my second circular power saw and I’m counting on it being my last. One real complaint; when you're cutting right-handed, the dust is directed right into your shoes and nailbags. The blade-left saw doesn't have a Bosch dust chute accessory available, and this saw really needs one. When you're cutting a post from right to left, the dust is projected straight up, into your face and eyes. Bosch needs a dust chute for the CS-5. I tried the dust chute for cs-10 and cs20, but it doesn't really attach to the CS-5 without major modification. It's a short-coming.

I bought the CS5 Circular Saw in May of 2015, and after two months of sporadic use the carbon brushes and armature needed to be replaced. It was repaired -- under warranty -- at the Bosch service facility in Anaheim, California. After another two months of normal / typical use, the carbon brushes and armature need to be replaced again. WTF? Is there an issue with the quality of the components Bosch uses for this particular saw? For five months of ownership and use, I expected something a bit more reliable. Not many choices for blade-left circular saws that are affordable, so I'll get this CS5 fixed again while it's under warranty.

Upon realizing this, and in order to assist buyers like myself in choosing the right tool for the job, I came up with this buyer's guide. I felt that there was a need for concise information that would help an average guy make the right buying decision when it comes to power tools such as the circular saw. So without further ado, let's go ahead and discuss what this product is all about so that you may get familiar with it, and hopefully empower you to make that buying decision. “Great power, won’t bog down even if you’re slightly off a straight line. This saw will rival your giant framing saw and save your arm due to it’s lower weight. Too early to tell how all the adjustments perform and how the table holds up to pro use, but early signs look great! I bought this saw for precision work since the blade is on the left (I’m right handed), but it instantly became my daily use saw; my framing saw is resting!”
The saw worked to perfection, I used it in combination with the Kreg Rip-Cut tool to get great straight cuts on my plywood and longer sections. I used it in concert with a sawhorse and some clamps to get great angled cuts. This tool can essentially replace a table saw and miter saw for "simpler" projects. I would saw that if one had a small budget, that the circular saw should be the first tool that you purchase. It is the tool that gives you the most bang for your buck. Bosch CS5 Manual

We gave this saw top score for its no nonsense, to the point design. It has all the most important features without the extra fuss and hassle of unnecessary bits and bobs. Its left hand design was enjoyed by both left and right handed users and although it is the fastest circular saw in its class, it still has a very competitive price. Here are a few other features worth mentioning.
So, all the 6 ½-inch and 7 ¼ -inch saws will be able to make a cut through a 2-inch piece of lumber at 90°. Things get a little trickier when we talk about beveled cuts. At 45° all the 7 ¼-inch saws will make it through with some room to spare but 6 ½-inch saws are cutting it really close. Literally. If you have a saw that goes beyond 45°, it can be hit or miss as to whether or not you’ll be able to make that cut in 2x material.
The Milwaukee 6394 goes toe-to-toe with Makita – even in price. It falters slightly with lower (but still adequate) cutting depth and doesn’t have a cutline blower. The pivoting handle is compelling, but our team doesn’t think it’s a huge difference-maker in the long run. At the end of the day, it’s a quality choice, especially if you find it on sale.
The second disadvantage is where your body will be positioned if there is a kickback. With a right blade saw generally your body will be off to the side of the saw, reducing the chance a kickback will hit you. With a left blade saw, you move the blade closer and so your body is more in line with the saw if it kicks back. Also, on a left blade saw, your left arm will have to cross over the top of the saw blade if you are cutting with your right hand on the trigger.

I was very disappointed in the blade depth locking mechanism and the baseplate as well with it's curved bottom edge making it hard to run against a thin straight edge. Because of the locking mechanism there's no strength between the saw and the base. Loved my left handed Porter Cable much better but couldn't find one. I own many quality Bosch tools but this one is not in their league. Bosch CS5 Case
During my construction and woodworking jobs, I often found myself using the circular saw more and more. I use it to cut hardwood that I use to make pieces of furniture, and house parts like windows, doors, etc. However, most of the blades of the circular saws that I've been using tend to wobble during prolonged use. There was also a time when the circular saw wasn't able to output the necessary power to make an efficient cut on the wood. Bosch CS5 Manual

When beginning your search for the best circular saw for you, there is one thing you will notice right away…the distinctions between circular saws aren’t always obvious. You can find one circular saw and think “looks good to me”, and right next to it is another and nothing seems noticeably different. Yet, there is a one hundred dollar price difference. If you’ve ever done tuckpointing, or most other masonry grinding applications for that matter, then it’s no mystery how much hassle it is to clean up the aftermath – let alone work through the cloud of dust these grinders can cause. Grinding applications, especially with concrete, also can create health risks that should be taken seriously. General recommendations range from wearing a certified respirator to providing exhaust ventilation to employing a dust collection system on the jobsite. OSHA regulations in place to ensure proper dust extraction equipment is used and precautions are taken to reduce exposure to dust. Bosch Model CS5
When one of these drills is jammed – put into a bind-up situation – applying power to the motor will not free the bit. Some of these new cordless tools have power to spare, and sudden high-torque movements rotate the drill … and the operator's wrists and arms. This at the least is tiring. It can be dangerous. Sometime the tool will twist out of the user's hand, swing around and hit the operator or someone close to the tool, causing bodily harm.
This saw replaced another Bosch that was dropped 4 feet and landed on concrete. The base plate was twisted and the blade was a quarter inch out of alignment. Repair parts were no longer available for it. Bought this one as I am left handed and was excited to get a left handed model instead of a right sided one. Based on other reviews, I was concerned about the base plate flatness and blade alignment to the baseplate edge. When I set my new one up I found that the baseplate was flat and the blade alignment was spot on. I docked the review one star for two reasons, first, the bevel cut needed adjustment which was easy to do and second, I was disappointment that the saw did not come with either a case or a bag. The unit comes in the standard Bosch blue in color and weighs a total of 13.3 pounds.  Dimensionally it stands at, 17.3 x 11.4 x 11.4 inches making it ergonomic and lightweight. The upper guard is made from sturdy aluminum and the foot plate is manufactured from magnesium. Both of these materials make the unit durable yet lightweight. This saw is designed for clients who are looking for an affordable product which focuses on general, straight forward core user needs
Depth of cut locking mechanism broke 8 cuts in. Would not hold shoe in place. Really disappointing. Also two of the eight cuts snagged towards the end. One more thing about the locking mechanism; When I tried to tighten the plastic handle and screw, the screw striped a bit. Very poorly made. Was hoping for a better run from the German Company. Frustrating. CS5 Bosch
