This saw replaced another Bosch that was dropped 4 feet and landed on concrete. The base plate was twisted and the blade was a quarter inch out of alignment. Repair parts were no longer available for it. Bought this one as I am left handed and was excited to get a left handed model instead of a right sided one. Based on other reviews, I was concerned about the base plate flatness and blade alignment to the baseplate edge. When I set my new one up I found that the baseplate was flat and the blade alignment was spot on. I docked the review one star for two reasons, first, the bevel cut needed adjustment which was easy to do and second, I was disappointment that the saw did not come with either a case or a bag.
Circular saws that have worm drive gearing are popular choices in the West and the Midwest, according to Fine Homebuilder magazine. In the East, sidewinders are the circ saws of choice. With the different gear configurations come different strengths (and weaknesses), so many professionals including carpenters pack one or several of each kind of circular saw, to use for different applications. The Milwaukee 6394 goes toe-to-toe with Makita – even in price. It falters slightly with lower (but still adequate) cutting depth and doesn’t have a cutline blower. The pivoting handle is compelling, but our team doesn’t think it’s a huge difference-maker in the long run. At the end of the day, it’s a quality choice, especially if you find it on sale. Why worm drive over a traditional circular saw? I’ll tell you why. Because it’s finally affordable to have a circular saw that is super tough and has the torque to make those difficult cuts. Because why choose a weaker circular saw when you can have a workhorse worm drive circular saw for a comparable price. The SKILSAW SPT77WML Circular Saw is a no-brainer really.

Whether it’s new construction or maintenance, many jobs require drilling holes in concrete. Selecting the right tool for the job is critical, but making the right choice can be complicated. Types of tools, bit holding systems and drill bit types, as well as nature of the job that needs to be done and availability of electric power – these are some of the variables that need to be taken into consideration. When beginning your search for the best circular saw for you, there is one thing you will notice right away…the distinctions between circular saws aren’t always obvious. You can find one circular saw and think “looks good to me”, and right next to it is another and nothing seems noticeably different. Yet, there is a one hundred dollar price difference.

The best circular saw overall is the Makita 5007MGA. It doesn’t have everything we’re looking for (most of us are blade-left guys), but it has all the other key components. It blends fast blade speed with deep cutting and takes advantage of magnesium to come in well under 11 pounds. On the feature side, it has the blade brake we consider a requirement for top Pro consideration, solid construction, 56 degrees of beveling with stops, and a cutline blower. Bosch CS5 Manual
If you’ve ever done tuckpointing, or most other masonry grinding applications for that matter, then it’s no mystery how much hassle it is to clean up the aftermath – let alone work through the cloud of dust these grinders can cause. Grinding applications, especially with concrete, also can create health risks that should be taken seriously. General recommendations range from wearing a certified respirator to providing exhaust ventilation to employing a dust collection system on the jobsite. OSHA regulations in place to ensure proper dust extraction equipment is used and precautions are taken to reduce exposure to dust.
