Cordless tools are all the rage and there’s no doubting their incredible convenience. Cordless circular saws like Makita’s 18V X2 Rear-Handle Saw pack a lot more power than those first models did. But not everyone’s on board with the cordless craze when it comes to circular saws. In fact, you’ll probably see more corded models than cordless in many areas. Why? Reliable power and nearly infinite runtime. Choosing the best circular saw isn’t always easy, and there’s more to consider than just specs. So we got together with our Pros to do the shopping for you with our Pro Tool Reviews Best Circular Saw Buying Guide. Bosch CS5 Dust Collection
Great for woodworking, remodeling, floor installation and other tasks (some that can't really be done well with any other tool), oscillating tools are outstanding additions to your toolbox. Recently, several Bosch models made it to the top of the editors' assessments of these woodworking tools. And whether you prefer corded or cordless, there is a Bosch that can help you get more done.

You’ll find a circular saw in nearly every Pros arsenal. Corded models offer nearly infinite power as long as electricity is hooked up or there’s a generator nearby. And with most models offering a 15-amp motor, you get reliably solid power. Even the DIY models can make an effective cut with decent speed using an excellent blade. Around the country, these benefits make Pros keep choosing the cord over cordless convenience. Plus, corded tools don’t force you to stick with one brand’s battery platform – you can get the best tool in each class no matter who makes it. CS5 Bosch

Bosch was founded in 1886 by Robert Bosch who is known for having said he’d “rather lose money than trust.” Since then Bosch has cultivated a reputation for quality and innovation across a broad spectrum of equipment and services beyond just power tools. Bosch Speed Clean drill bits are code approved and meet OSHA standards for adhesive anchoring. Bosch has engineered the bit using a solid piece of steel with a dust channel milled to exacting specifications. It extracts dust while drilling, creating 25 percent greater drilling speed. Can a saw be sporty? That's how this feels to me when I'm using it. It's pretty basic as far as features and it's also very well thought out. I do wish it had the same baseplate and positive detents on depth and angle adjustments as the CS10 but those are not in any way a hinderance to the saw. Everything seems to be in just the right place with the controls and handles. A left blade saw for right hand user is a really nice feature for the way I cut. In fact, I sometimes hold right blade saws left handed when using them for cuts. I don't have any problems with the dust chute blowing dust onto me because I happen to stand behind where it blows on shorter cutting situations and I stand directly to the side of the saw in longer ripping and crosscutting situations such as making cuts on sheet goods and then the dust blows more behind me. Either way, it blows the dust more downward than most saws I've used.
OSHA has proposed regulations that would raise standards of exposure for airborne crystalline silica, also known as silica dust. As Lauren Hunter of Hanley Wood wrote, "OSHA's proposed rule would reduce the current permissible exposure limit (PEL) from 100 μg/m3 (micrograms per cubic meter) to 50 μg/m3. Reminiscent of the Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting rule, projects that would exceed the new silica dust limits limit would require the use of special tools, respirators, or other remedial measures."
Two of the most notable features really play very well with one another. Those are the two LED work lights and the integrated dust blower. Both will allow you to clearly see your cut-line and ensure you are getting the most accurate cut you can. The scales on the shoe and the bevels are easy to read and all adjustments can be made with a single hand.
If you’ve ever done tuckpointing, or most other masonry grinding applications for that matter, then it’s no mystery how much hassle it is to clean up the aftermath – let alone work through the cloud of dust these grinders can cause. Grinding applications, especially with concrete, also can create health risks that should be taken seriously. General recommendations range from wearing a certified respirator to providing exhaust ventilation to employing a dust collection system on the jobsite. OSHA regulations in place to ensure proper dust extraction equipment is used and precautions are taken to reduce exposure to dust. CS5 Bosch
The overall build quality, ease of use, performance and the ability to do more than any other handheld circular saw makes Bosch cs5 more useful. The left blade design makes it possible through a specific action for the clearest or visible line of sight for right-handed users. This device is made by combining materials and parts with durability in mind. With Bosch quality, this tool will withstand tough job site environment. Bosch CS5 Rip Fence
As mentioned earlier, one of the things that Bosch boasts about their CS5 is the left blade design. This robust, and simply powerful machine makes it more convenient and easier usually for right-handed users. This feature allows the cutter to have a direct line of sight whenever cutting, which means it is less prone to accidents, and its precision is unmatched. Bosch Model CS5
A sidewinder is basically a direct-drive circular saw with the motor in line with the gearing, so the blade spins faster and the saw is more compact. The blade on a sidewinder is usually on the right (the Bosch CS5 is a sidewinder designed specifically to have the blade on the left). Sidewinders bring higher rpm but lower torque than worm drive construction saws.
The saw has good run out (the blade doesn't wobble), has plenty of power and will cut a perfectly straight line freehand using the blade mark on the base. If you try to use a guide like a square, the front and rear corners of the base cause the saw to deviate from a straight line. If they would have put a descent plate on this saw, it would be a 5 star.
As a deck builder, I use this saw EVERY day, cutting extremely hard woods like ipe and garrapa. This saw, like all 15amp, circular saws can handle the wood and any kind of cut. I use only top quality Diablo blades, and regularly perform finger rips and compound miters without any issues with the motor bogging down and blade deflection. I also regularly have to rip wet PT wood, and this saw handles it all fine. This is a great saw and a great price, the blade-left design provides excellent line of sight when cutting with your right hand. Very lite weight and powerful, with all cast-metal parts and a tape on the foot. I'd like a detent at the common bevel cuts (22.5 and 45) but it's fine without it. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of strength to get the plate back to square (0 degree bevel) Bosch CS5 Review

Powered by a 15 amp motor running off 120 volts, the Bosch CS5 7-1/4″ circular saw is expected to produce enough cutting power for various applications. Although it might not be the most powerful circular saw available, at this power level it is capable of cutting through 3/4″ of plywood and other dense materials. The motor can deliver no-load speed up to 6200 RPM. It is one of the fastest cutting saws in its class.

Bosch is entering a new category with left blade design at the best value! CS5 is a tool for value conscious professionals focusing on core user needs. The Bosch CS5 focuses on line of sight, power and durability with its 15 Amps Power that provides power to cut through 3/4″ plywood and other dense materials, left blade Design gives users the clearest line of sight for easy and accurate cutting.

But therein lies the only significant con of a corded circular saw, the cord. This means you’ll be limited as to where you can do your work by the maximum length of your extension cord. Normally, this isn’t much of a problem but when it is, there is next to nothing you can do about it. A good extension cord will also add to the overall cost of the saw you purchase unless you already have one. Bosch CS5 Saw

We gave this saw top score for its no nonsense, to the point design. It has all the most important features without the extra fuss and hassle of unnecessary bits and bobs. Its left hand design was enjoyed by both left and right handed users and although it is the fastest circular saw in its class, it still has a very competitive price. Here are a few other features worth mentioning. Bosch CS5 7-1/4-In Circular Saw
The DeWalt DWE575SB is an very light saw at only 8.8 lbs and powerful reaching up to 5,100 RPM. It will also make bevel cuts up to 57° with stops at 22.5° and 45°. The cutting depth is tops too at 2.55 inches at 90° and 1.9 inches at 45°. But perhaps one of the best features is the electric brake which will quickly bring the blade to a halt when the trigger is released. Bosch Model CS5

The Bosch CS5 power circular saw is a great all around tool that is capable and delivers on quality. I used this power saw to help construct a gazebo in the back yard and have brought it on multiple job and its been great, particularly as someone who is right handed and has used other inferior circular saws. The seven and a half inch blade is what I wanted, and the power that this circular saw packs is more than enough to saw through every possible type of wood you could select or encounter. In addition, Bosch has made a circular saw that gives you a great line of sight and is built to last! This is my second circular power saw and I’m counting on it being my last. This is a great saw that has exceeded my expectations. Its a solid power saw that can handle whatever you throw at it. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
Another thing to consider is the functionality of the saw. Is the safety mechanism of the saw appropriate? Is the operating mechanism easy to access? When you cut wood, the shavings and dust will go spewing everywhere. Does the saw offer a dust chute to prevent those shavings and dust from going to your face? These are just some of the questions you need to ask before picking the right circular saw for you. Bosch CS5 Saw

The Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw is an excellent investment considering all the features that it offers the users, as well as its build quality. As a circular saw, it gives you all the power you need and more. As a bonus the manufacturer--Bosch--is well-known for its excellent after sales support. Never do you have to worry about not getting help in the even that you encounter an issue with your Bosch CS5. Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw
Hilti is literally a rebranded makita….they have the exact same parts. Just look at the bevel quick set control. If you see them side by side you’ll know. Also, I have found some of the Makita’s to have guards that are tough to start when cutting. Can get annoying when they constantly resist opening. The dewalts often come from the factory with the tables crooked. Hold a framing square along the blade and check if it lines up with the front guide detente. The table is often out 3/16th. Dewalt knows about the problem but doesn’t care.

The Milwaukee 6394 goes toe-to-toe with Makita – even in price. It falters slightly with lower (but still adequate) cutting depth and doesn’t have a cutline blower. The pivoting handle is compelling, but our team doesn’t think it’s a huge difference-maker in the long run. At the end of the day, it’s a quality choice, especially if you find it on sale.

Bosch PRO+GUARD™ dust solutions are designed to help you move toward compliance with the OSHA silica dust regulation. But, there is a bonus. Namely, managing dust can boost productivity. An example is that Bosch dust extractors keep the air cleaner by using HEPA filters that capture 99.97 percent of dust particles. Bosch Speed Clean dust-extraction drill bits, when used to set adhesive anchors, reduce installation time but up to 50 percent. The key is using a comprehensive dust-management system. Check out the video to learn more about how the end-to-end solution can work for you. Bosch CS5 Saw

As someone who works in construction and doing some personal woodworking on the side, there's a profound need for a reliable tool with more than mediocre performance. Considering that there is a wide range of circular saws out in the market, finding the right one can be confusing and overwhelming, not to mention that these choices make it a daunting task to find the right saw. Should you go corded or wireless? Which brand is better? Which is worth my money? These are just some of the few questions that every consumer might have, and finding the right circular saw can be difficult.
During my construction and woodworking jobs, I often found myself using the circular saw more and more. I use it to cut hardwood that I use to make pieces of furniture, and house parts like windows, doors, etc. However, most of the blades of the circular saws that I've been using tend to wobble during prolonged use. There was also a time when the circular saw wasn't able to output the necessary power to make an efficient cut on the wood. Bosch CS5 Manual

The Bosch CS5 is a reliable tool for both DIYers and professionals looking for a solidly built circular saw. It stands out in a competitive arena with its high-end design, quality and power. However, this 7 1/4-inch circular saw has a couple shortcomings that keep it from being the best in our review, including a lack of positive bevel stops and an awkward, though effective, dust chute. I bought the CS5 Circular Saw in May of 2015, and after two months of sporadic use the carbon brushes and armature needed to be replaced. It was repaired -- under warranty -- at the Bosch service facility in Anaheim, California. After another two months of normal / typical use, the carbon brushes and armature need to be replaced again. WTF? Is there an issue with the quality of the components Bosch uses for this particular saw? For five months of ownership and use, I expected something a bit more reliable. One of the best things about the Bosch CS5 Power Saw is its left-blade design. There are a lot of people who do not realize this yet but the main reason why the blade is on the left side is because it will be easier for people, particularly those who are right handed to make use of the blade when they are working. It worked so well for me so I am sure that those who are going to make use of that too will also find it easy.

Cut through plywood and other pieces of lumber easily using the 7 1/4-Inch 15 A Left Blade Circular Saw from Bosch. It runs on a powerful, high-output 15-Amp motor that reaches no-load speeds of up to 6200 rpm. Featuring a lightweight design, it is easy to handle and operate as you cut through plywood as thick as 3/4 of an inch. The blade is positioned on the left side of the Bosch 15-Amp circular saw, increasing visibility during work. The Spindle Lock allows for quick and easy blade changes using the included wrench, which fits into a built-in storage space. An adjustable bevel and aluminum lower guard enable angled cuts and prevent snags. With conveniently accessible and replaceable brushes, this lightweight circular saw is easy to maintain. The soft handle provides a comfortable grip. Bosch CS5 7-1/4-In Circular Saw

Dust collection has become a big issue, with OSHA looking closely at silica dust regulations. (You can read a primer about concrete grinding and OSHA here.) However, a bit more research shows there is a universal rip fence out there, and it costs the same as the ill-fitting Skill! It comes with 4 guides to accommodate almost all circular saws, is reversible and has detailed measuring scales accommodating lumber up to 10 inches from the edge. It will also fit any jig saw and has a circle compass so you can cut circles in wood. So if you’ve already got a jig saw, this may be handy one day.
