This saw replaced another Bosch that was dropped 4 feet and landed on concrete. The base plate was twisted and the blade was a quarter inch out of alignment. Repair parts were no longer available for it. Bought this one as I am left handed and was excited to get a left handed model instead of a right sided one. Based on other reviews, I was concerned about the base plate flatness and blade alignment to the baseplate edge. When I set my new one up I found that the baseplate was flat and the blade alignment was spot on. I docked the review one star for two reasons, first, the bevel cut needed adjustment which was easy to do and second, I was disappointment that the saw did not come with either a case or a bag. Powered by a 15 amp motor running off 120 volts, the Bosch CS5 7-1/4″ circular saw is expected to produce enough cutting power for various applications. Although it might not be the most powerful circular saw available, at this power level it is capable of cutting through 3/4″ of plywood and other dense materials. The motor can deliver no-load speed up to 6200 RPM. It is one of the fastest cutting saws in its class.
I bought this saw because I wanted the left hand blade that you traditionally get with trim saws but I wanted a framing size. My first impressions when opening the box was that there were some small chips out of the plate and some scuffs on the housing. I was not thrilled but this does not affect the performance of the saw, which is quit well. I just ripped some mdf to try it out and it was great. I have a big deck job coming up and will put the saw though it paces. Overall a pretty good saw for the money and if you want a left hand framer without buying a worm drive saw.

If you are planning to get yourself a new corded circular saw, the Bosch CS5 can be an excellent choice. Although the 7-1/4-Inch circ saw cannot be considered as a low priced tool, many buyers have said that the price is a bargain considering the features that it offers. Here is an unbiased review of the left blade circular saw to help you decide whether buying it is the right move for you.
I was very disappointed in the blade depth locking mechanism and the baseplate as well with it's curved bottom edge making it hard to run against a thin straight edge. Because of the locking mechanism there's no strength between the saw and the base. Loved my left handed Porter Cable much better but couldn't find one. I own many quality Bosch tools but this one is not in their league. Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw

When one of these drills is jammed – put into a bind-up situation – applying power to the motor will not free the bit. Some of these new cordless tools have power to spare, and sudden high-torque movements rotate the drill … and the operator's wrists and arms. This at the least is tiring. It can be dangerous. Sometime the tool will twist out of the user's hand, swing around and hit the operator or someone close to the tool, causing bodily harm.

As mentioned earlier, one of the things that Bosch boasts about their CS5 is the left blade design. This robust, and simply powerful machine makes it more convenient and easier usually for right-handed users. This feature allows the cutter to have a direct line of sight whenever cutting, which means it is less prone to accidents, and its precision is unmatched. Bosch Model CS5

Cut through plywood and other pieces of lumber easily using the 7 1/4-Inch 15 A Left Blade Circular Saw from Bosch. It runs on a powerful, high-output 15-Amp motor that reaches no-load speeds of up to 6200 rpm. Featuring a lightweight design, it is easy to handle and operate as you cut through plywood as thick as 3/4 of an inch. The blade is positioned on the left side of the Bosch 15-Amp circular saw, increasing visibility during work. The Spindle Lock allows for quick and easy blade changes using the included wrench, which fits into a built-in storage space. An adjustable bevel and aluminum lower guard enable angled cuts and prevent snags. With conveniently accessible and replaceable brushes, this lightweight circular saw is easy to maintain. The soft handle provides a comfortable grip.

Depth of cut locking mechanism broke 8 cuts in. Would not hold shoe in place. Really disappointing. Also two of the eight cuts snagged towards the end. One more thing about the locking mechanism; When I tried to tighten the plastic handle and screw, the screw striped a bit. Very poorly made. Was hoping for a better run from the German Company. Frustrating. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
As a deck builder, I use this saw EVERY day, cutting extremely hard woods like ipe and garrapa. This saw, like all 15amp, circular saws can handle the wood and any kind of cut. I use only top quality Diablo blades, and regularly perform finger rips and compound miters without any issues with the motor bogging down and blade deflection. I also regularly have to rip wet PT wood, and this saw handles it all fine. This is a great saw and a great price, the blade-left design provides excellent line of sight when cutting with your right hand. Very lite weight and powerful, with all cast-metal parts and a tape on the foot. I'd like a detent at the common bevel cuts (22.5 and 45) but it's fine without it. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of strength to get the plate back to square (0 degree bevel)

Hitachi is one of those brands you didn’t realize was into making power tools and then you realize that not only do they make them, but they make some great tools. Hitachi was originally founded in 1948 manufacturing coal mining machinery and electric power tools. Since then, they’ve grown their tool lineup to include pneumatics, metalworking, woodworking, drills, saws, and much more. Bosch CS5 7-1/4-In Circular Saw
The saw has good run out (the blade doesn't wobble), has plenty of power and will cut a perfectly straight line freehand using the blade mark on the base. If you try to use a guide like a square, the front and rear corners of the base cause the saw to deviate from a straight line. If they would have put a descent plate on this saw, it would be a 5 star. Bosch CS5 7-1/4-In Circular Saw

We gave this saw top score for its no nonsense, to the point design. It has all the most important features without the extra fuss and hassle of unnecessary bits and bobs. Its left hand design was enjoyed by both left and right handed users and although it is the fastest circular saw in its class, it still has a very competitive price. Here are a few other features worth mentioning.
"The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced a proposed rule aimed at curbing lung cancer, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and kidney disease in America's workers. The proposal seeks to lower worker exposure to crystalline silica, which kills hundreds of workers and sickens thousands more each year.
Milwaukee got its start in 1924 with their first version of a portable, ¼-inch drill known as the Hole-Shooter. Milwaukee is a brand perhaps best known for their professional quality, heavy duty tools but they’ve also made their mark in the world of tools by innovation of new products such as the Sawzall, revolutionizing the 7 ¼-inch circular saw, and being the first to utilize Lithium-Ion batteries to power their tools. There is no case to store it in. That was fine with me because I already had a designated spot for it in my cargo trailer. As for the outward appearance, It’s the standard blue shell, red trim and logo, with brushed metal accents. There is no safety trigger. This could be dangerous for children but a blessing to experienced users. I find some safety triggers to be hazardous because you have to focus on squeezing the trigger rather than focusing on the task at hand. Weighing in at 10 lbs., it’s lighter than the old circular saws I was accustomed to. The grip of the handle felt the same as my old saws except for a little rubber padding which was nice. The cord length on this and every other corded tool in history is too short for many typical tasks but that’s what extension cords are for. The sound of the saw is the same piercing scream and wind-down that we all love. There is no electric brake.

“Great power, won’t bog down even if you’re slightly off a straight line. This saw will rival your giant framing saw and save your arm due to it’s lower weight. Too early to tell how all the adjustments perform and how the table holds up to pro use, but early signs look great! I bought this saw for precision work since the blade is on the left (I’m right handed), but it instantly became my daily use saw; my framing saw is resting!” Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw
The unit comes in the standard Bosch blue in color and weighs a total of 13.3 pounds.  Dimensionally it stands at, 17.3 x 11.4 x 11.4 inches making it ergonomic and lightweight. The upper guard is made from sturdy aluminum and the foot plate is manufactured from magnesium. Both of these materials make the unit durable yet lightweight. The Bosch CS5 is a reliable tool for both DIYers and professionals looking for a solidly built circular saw. It stands out in a competitive arena with its high-end design, quality and power. However, this 7 1/4-inch circular saw has a couple shortcomings that keep it from being the best in our review, including a lack of positive bevel stops and an awkward, though effective, dust chute.

While they sound cool and are fun to brag about, I haven’t personally found them more than slightly useful for setting up a cut initially. Not only are they only nominally accurate, but once I’ve begun cutting, I’m too focused on paying attention to the guide on the shoe to really be able to use the laser. Combine that with accuracy problems on the lasers and I personally don’t get a lot of mileage out of them.

The jobsite radio or worksite portable sound system category is now one where, instead of the old portable CD player, users are able to get durable boomboxes with pumped up sounds connected to their MP3 players or phones for stored music or internet radio. And according to the reviewers in the field, none is tougher or sounds better than the cordless, portable Bosch PB360S Power Box Jobsite Radio and Charger.
A:  If it’s not cutting square this can be a few things. The first to check would be to ensure the bevel is set to 0° on your bevel adjustment. Then check if the blade is secure and not damaged or warped. If all else checks out, then you might need to make a bevel adjustment to return it to square. This video gives a good example of how you would need to do this. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw

When beginning your search for the best circular saw for you, there is one thing you will notice right away…the distinctions between circular saws aren’t always obvious. You can find one circular saw and think “looks good to me”, and right next to it is another and nothing seems noticeably different. Yet, there is a one hundred dollar price difference. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
The DeWalt DWE575SB is an very light saw at only 8.8 lbs and powerful reaching up to 5,100 RPM. It will also make bevel cuts up to 57° with stops at 22.5° and 45°. The cutting depth is tops too at 2.55 inches at 90° and 1.9 inches at 45°. But perhaps one of the best features is the electric brake which will quickly bring the blade to a halt when the trigger is released. Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw
If you follow cordless tools, you’ll know that they rarely stay on the market more than a year without some sort of update. But some of the circular saws have been out more than 15 years and are still chewing up wood reliably. While not every saw we looked at takes home a top recommendation, each have their place. Scroll to the bottom to see the entire list.

Finally, a word on using the line guide. For a normal 90° cut, you should use the left side of the notch as shown here in the diagram. For bevel cuts within the range 45° to 56° you should use the right side. Because saw blades vary in type and thickness, I strongly urge you to make a sample cut on a scrap piece of lumber to check the line of cut you’ll actually get. And remember, face the good side of the lumber down to ensure minimum splintering.
