One last thing, cordless circular saws tend to have smaller blades, usually about 6 ½ inches versus the more common 7 ¼-inch blades on corded saws. A 6 ½-inch blade is just barely enough to get through a 2x4 at 45°. Any smaller than 6 ½ inches severely limits the capabilities of the tool. There are some 7 ¼-inch cordless circular saws, but they are not as common.
When I was looking for a circular saw, I was looking for more than something that would make efficient wooden cuts. I was looking for something that would need minimal maintenance, robust, powerful and light enough to bring anywhere I go. This particular saw is by far, the one that meets all those categories. It is extremely lightweight, powerful, and has a pretty solid build to it. Bosch CS5 Dust Collection
Another thing to consider is the functionality of the saw. Is the safety mechanism of the saw appropriate? Is the operating mechanism easy to access? When you cut wood, the shavings and dust will go spewing everywhere. Does the saw offer a dust chute to prevent those shavings and dust from going to your face? These are just some of the questions you need to ask before picking the right circular saw for you. Bosch CS5 Rip Fence
One of the best things about the Bosch CS5 Power Saw is its left-blade design. There are a lot of people who do not realize this yet but the main reason why the blade is on the left side is because it will be easier for people, particularly those who are right handed to make use of the blade when they are working. It worked so well for me so I am sure that those who are going to make use of that too will also find it easy.
As mentioned by other users, the baseplate seems a little flimsy. Constructed of magnesium, along with curved edges, the plate just doesn’t have the same feel and control as a flat piece of steel. The guide marks on the plate aren’t very accurate either. I’ve found that I don’t use them at all anymore because I can see my line right in front of me. In Bosch’s defense, steel plates get rusty and circular saws aren’t used for their accuracy like in cabinet-making and finish carpentry where 1/64 can ruin a project. This is where another ¼ star gets deducted.

You’ll find a circular saw in nearly every Pros arsenal. Corded models offer nearly infinite power as long as electricity is hooked up or there’s a generator nearby. And with most models offering a 15-amp motor, you get reliably solid power. Even the DIY models can make an effective cut with decent speed using an excellent blade. Around the country, these benefits make Pros keep choosing the cord over cordless convenience. Plus, corded tools don’t force you to stick with one brand’s battery platform – you can get the best tool in each class no matter who makes it.

When one of these drills is jammed – put into a bind-up situation – applying power to the motor will not free the bit. Some of these new cordless tools have power to spare, and sudden high-torque movements rotate the drill … and the operator's wrists and arms. This at the least is tiring. It can be dangerous. Sometime the tool will twist out of the user's hand, swing around and hit the operator or someone close to the tool, causing bodily harm. Bosch CS5 Manual

This is a great feature because often we assume once we’ve released the trigger the saw is no longer running and therefore no longer dangerous. It’s really easy to put your hands in the wrong place or to set the saw down while the blade is still moving, and that’s an ugly scenario. An electric brake will drastically reduce the chances of this happening.

When beginning your search for the best circular saw for you, there is one thing you will notice right away…the distinctions between circular saws aren’t always obvious. You can find one circular saw and think “looks good to me”, and right next to it is another and nothing seems noticeably different. Yet, there is a one hundred dollar price difference. Upon realizing this, and in order to assist buyers like myself in choosing the right tool for the job, I came up with this buyer's guide. I felt that there was a need for concise information that would help an average guy make the right buying decision when it comes to power tools such as the circular saw. So without further ado, let's go ahead and discuss what this product is all about so that you may get familiar with it, and hopefully empower you to make that buying decision.

Milwaukee got its start in 1924 with their first version of a portable, ¼-inch drill known as the Hole-Shooter. Milwaukee is a brand perhaps best known for their professional quality, heavy duty tools but they’ve also made their mark in the world of tools by innovation of new products such as the Sawzall, revolutionizing the 7 ¼-inch circular saw, and being the first to utilize Lithium-Ion batteries to power their tools. I have really enjoyed my new circular saw since my skil saw bit the dust. I have remodeled a commercial office, and built some wainscoting with it and can now give it favorable reviews. I like the left blade for better sight of your cut line. I has plenty of power, and is easy to use. It follows a clamp-and-cut straight edge well, and easily breaks down sheet goods for cutting at the tablesaw. It doesn’t have a safety switch on the trigger, but I always use the blade guard so it wo...

Most Pros are pretty set in their ways when it comes to blade-left or blade-right circular saws. And it’s not simply a “righties want blade-left and lefties want blade-right” discussion. Clint and I are both righties – I prefer blade-left and he prefers blade-right. However, direct drive (sidewinder) circular saws like these are traditionally blade-right, but a few are bucking the trend. So whichever you like, here’s a quick list of where each one falls. Bosch Speed Clean drill bits are code approved and meet OSHA standards for adhesive anchoring. Bosch has engineered the bit using a solid piece of steel with a dust channel milled to exacting specifications. It extracts dust while drilling, creating 25 percent greater drilling speed. Speed Clean is an important part of the PRO+GUARD™ dust system that helps users move toward compliance with the OSHA silica regulation. The bit life is comparable to the life of Bosch Bulldog™ SDS-plus® or Bosch SpeedX® SDS-max® bits. Be sure to watch the video to find out how Speed Clean works. Bosch Model CS5
One real complaint; when you're cutting right-handed, the dust is directed right into your shoes and nailbags. The blade-left saw doesn't have a Bosch dust chute accessory available, and this saw really needs one. When you're cutting a post from right to left, the dust is projected straight up, into your face and eyes. Bosch needs a dust chute for the CS-5. I tried the dust chute for cs-10 and cs20, but it doesn't really attach to the CS-5 without major modification. It's a short-coming. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw
Circular saws that have worm drive gearing are popular choices in the West and the Midwest, according to Fine Homebuilder magazine. In the East, sidewinders are the circ saws of choice. With the different gear configurations come different strengths (and weaknesses), so many professionals including carpenters pack one or several of each kind of circular saw, to use for different applications. Hitachi is one of those brands you didn’t realize was into making power tools and then you realize that not only do they make them, but they make some great tools. Hitachi was originally founded in 1948 manufacturing coal mining machinery and electric power tools. Since then, they’ve grown their tool lineup to include pneumatics, metalworking, woodworking, drills, saws, and much more. Bosch CS5 7-1/4-In Circular Saw

During my construction and woodworking jobs, I often found myself using the circular saw more and more. I use it to cut hardwood that I use to make pieces of furniture, and house parts like windows, doors, etc. However, most of the blades of the circular saws that I've been using tend to wobble during prolonged use. There was also a time when the circular saw wasn't able to output the necessary power to make an efficient cut on the wood. Bosch CS5 Manual

The second disadvantage is where your body will be positioned if there is a kickback. With a right blade saw generally your body will be off to the side of the saw, reducing the chance a kickback will hit you. With a left blade saw, you move the blade closer and so your body is more in line with the saw if it kicks back. Also, on a left blade saw, your left arm will have to cross over the top of the saw blade if you are cutting with your right hand on the trigger. Bosch CS5 Rip Fence
This saw is considered to be lightweight because of components made of magnesium, which makes it balanced and tough during in use. Its powerful motor, which delivers 15A of power, makes it easy for you to cut even the thickest lumber. It also comes with large capacities of bevel and cutting. It can give you a positive stop of 22.5 degrees to 45 degrees respectively. It also comes with LED light, and ruler markings that will allow depth and base guide to make accurate measurements and cuts. It is designed to withstand some abuses, which is compensated by the power cord it comes with.
Great for woodworking, remodeling, floor installation and other tasks (some that can't really be done well with any other tool), oscillating tools are outstanding additions to your toolbox. Recently, several Bosch models made it to the top of the editors' assessments of these woodworking tools. And whether you prefer corded or cordless, there is a Bosch that can help you get more done.

Bosch PRO+GUARD™ dust solutions are designed to help you move toward compliance with the OSHA silica dust regulation. But, there is a bonus. Namely, managing dust can boost productivity. An example is that Bosch dust extractors keep the air cleaner by using HEPA filters that capture 99.97 percent of dust particles. Bosch Speed Clean dust-extraction drill bits, when used to set adhesive anchors, reduce installation time but up to 50 percent. The key is using a comprehensive dust-management system. Check out the video to learn more about how the end-to-end solution can work for you. Bosch CS5 Saw

We gave this saw top score for its no nonsense, to the point design. It has all the most important features without the extra fuss and hassle of unnecessary bits and bobs. Its left hand design was enjoyed by both left and right handed users and although it is the fastest circular saw in its class, it still has a very competitive price. Here are a few other features worth mentioning.

All you have to do is unpack this saw to know you no longer have another one of those throw aways.  I use it for making long cuts (mostly 8 ft) in 3/4 inch hardwood plycor plywood.  This saw simply does not bog down even when pushing it hard.  It does not overheat and it does not make that high pitched whine that most saws make.  It looks like quality, feels like quality, and performs like a true champion.  And for the first time, I can actually see where the blade is without craning my neck over the saw.  It is a keeper Bosch CS5 Saw
The DeWalt DWE575SB is an very light saw at only 8.8 lbs and powerful reaching up to 5,100 RPM. It will also make bevel cuts up to 57° with stops at 22.5° and 45°. The cutting depth is tops too at 2.55 inches at 90° and 1.9 inches at 45°. But perhaps one of the best features is the electric brake which will quickly bring the blade to a halt when the trigger is released. Bosch CS5 Case

The CS5 circular saw runs from a 120 volts supply and it is corded. While the lower guard has an anti-snug feature to prevent accidents, it weighs approximately 10 lbs, with a diameter of the 7.5-inch blade. Despite the fact that this is cheaper than other brands and models of the same type, it offers enormous power and durability. It is by far, one of the most preferred brands by most individuals, especially those who haven’t tried other circular saws yet. CS5 Bosch Circular Saw

“Great power, won’t bog down even if you’re slightly off a straight line. This saw will rival your giant framing saw and save your arm due to it’s lower weight. Too early to tell how all the adjustments perform and how the table holds up to pro use, but early signs look great! I bought this saw for precision work since the blade is on the left (I’m right handed), but it instantly became my daily use saw; my framing saw is resting!”
If you're new to using a router, start off with a small fixed-base router or trim router, something in the 1-hp to 1-1/2-hp range. As users become more confident and comfortable using a router, move up to a larger fixed-base or plunge router in the 1¾- to 3½-hp range. Look for one with these five features in the best router: soft-start motor, smooth-operating depth-adjustment mechanism, comfortable handles or grip, push-button arbor lock for one-wrench bit changes, and a flexible power cord that's at least eight feet long.
I was very disappointed in the blade depth locking mechanism and the baseplate as well with it's curved bottom edge making it hard to run against a thin straight edge. Because of the locking mechanism there's no strength between the saw and the base. Loved my left handed Porter Cable much better but couldn't find one. I own many quality Bosch tools but this one is not in their league. Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw
The Bosch CS5 power circular saw is a great all around tool that is capable and delivers on quality. I used this power saw to help construct a gazebo in the back yard and have brought it on multiple job and its been great, particularly as someone who is right handed and has used other inferior circular saws. The seven and a half inch blade is what I wanted, and the power that this circular saw packs is more than enough to saw through every possible type of wood you could select or encounter. In addition, Bosch has made a circular saw that gives you a great line of sight and is built to last! This is my second circular power saw and I’m counting on it being my last. This is a great saw that has exceeded my expectations. Its a solid power saw that can handle whatever you throw at it. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review

But therein lies the only significant con of a corded circular saw, the cord. This means you’ll be limited as to where you can do your work by the maximum length of your extension cord. Normally, this isn’t much of a problem but when it is, there is next to nothing you can do about it. A good extension cord will also add to the overall cost of the saw you purchase unless you already have one. CS5 Bosch
