I bought the CS5 Circular Saw in May of 2015, and after two months of sporadic use the carbon brushes and armature needed to be replaced. It was repaired -- under warranty -- at the Bosch service facility in Anaheim, California. After another two months of normal / typical use, the carbon brushes and armature need to be replaced again. WTF? Is there an issue with the quality of the components Bosch uses for this particular saw? For five months of ownership and use, I expected something a bit more reliable. Not many choices for blade-left circular saws that are affordable, so I'll get this CS5 fixed again while it's under warranty. Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
Why worm drive over a traditional circular saw? I’ll tell you why. Because it’s finally affordable to have a circular saw that is super tough and has the torque to make those difficult cuts. Because why choose a weaker circular saw when you can have a workhorse worm drive circular saw for a comparable price. The SKILSAW SPT77WML Circular Saw is a no-brainer really. CS5 Bosch
When selecting a circular saw, the first thing that you have to think about is what will you use it for. Of course you will use it for cutting materials. But what kind of materials will you be cutting most often. You surely don't need a metal saw if majority of the materials that you will be working on is wood. There's a power output difference between the circular saws for wood and the ones for metal. Obviously, you will require more power in cutting metal compared to wood. So before buying, think of how you will use it and what you will use it for.
This is the price (excluding shipping and handling fees) a seller has provided at which the same item, or one that is nearly identical to it, is being offered for sale or has been offered for sale in the recent past. The price may be the seller's own price elsewhere or another seller's price. The "off" amount and percentage simply signifies the calculated difference between the seller-provided price for the item elsewhere and the seller's price on eBay. If you have any questions related to the pricing and/or discount offered in a particular listing, please contact the seller for that listing.
One real complaint; when you're cutting right-handed, the dust is directed right into your shoes and nailbags. The blade-left saw doesn't have a Bosch dust chute accessory available, and this saw really needs one. When you're cutting a post from right to left, the dust is projected straight up, into your face and eyes. Bosch needs a dust chute for the CS-5. I tried the dust chute for cs-10 and cs20, but it doesn't really attach to the CS-5 without major modification. It's a short-coming.
As someone who works in construction and doing some personal woodworking on the side, there's a profound need for a reliable tool with more than mediocre performance. You will find me working on a variety of things, from cutting tube fittings to doing various cuts on maple or any type of hard wood. The proposal seeks to lower worker exposure to crystalline silica, which kills hundreds of workers and sickens thousands more each year.

Cordless tools are all the rage and there’s no doubting their incredible convenience. Cordless circular saws like Makita’s 18V X2 Rear-Handle Saw pack a lot more power than those first models did. But not everyone’s on board with the cordless craze when it comes to circular saws. In fact, you’ll probably see more corded models than cordless in many areas. Why? Reliable power and nearly infinite runtime. Choosing the best circular saw isn’t always easy, and there’s more to consider than just specs. So we got together with our Pros to do the shopping for you with our Pro Tool Reviews Best Circular Saw Buying Guide. CS5 Bosch Circular Saw
Another thing to consider is the functionality of the saw. Is the safety mechanism of the saw appropriate? Is the operating mechanism easy to access? When you cut wood, the shavings and dust will go spewing everywhere. Does the saw offer a dust chute to prevent those shavings and dust from going to your face? These are just some of the questions you need to ask before picking the right circular saw for you. Bosch CS5 Review

The Bosch CS5 is a reliable tool for both DIYers and professionals looking for a solidly built circular saw. It stands out in a competitive arena with its high-end design, quality and power. However, this 7 1/4-inch circular saw has a couple shortcomings that keep it from being the best in our review, including a lack of positive bevel stops and an awkward, though effective, dust chute. Hitachi is one of those brands you didn’t realize was into making power tools and then you realize that not only do they make them, but they make some great tools. Hitachi was originally founded in 1948 manufacturing coal mining machinery and electric power tools. Since then, they’ve grown their tool lineup to include pneumatics, metalworking, woodworking, drills, saws, and much more.
Depth of cut locking mechanism broke 8 cuts in. Would not hold shoe in place. Really disappointing. Also two of the eight cuts snagged towards the end. One more thing about the locking mechanism; When I tried to tighten the plastic handle and screw, the screw striped a bit. Very poorly made. Was hoping for a better run from the German Company. Frustrating.
The Bosch VAC090A 9-Gallon and VAC140A 14-Gallon Dust Extractors provide the suction power for the PRO+GUARD™ dust solution. As this video shows, the Bosch 9-Gallon dust extractor can start the job and finish job, cleanly. Bosh dust extractors feature Auto Filter Clean, HEPA filters and recommended prefiltering fleece bags. Bosch HEPA Dust Extractors are able to sustain high suction power, even as the job moves on. Cubic feet of air per minute (CFM) rate measures air flow. These extractors have a maximum 150-CFM air flow. They have a 97 In. static water lift (maximum). Check out the video to see the Bosch VAC090A in action.
The most important part of the saw selection process is its durability. Whatever saw you pick, it must be durable enough to withstand the ruggedness of normal use. During selection, try to ask the hardware attendant if there is any possibility that you could do a durability test on the saw. Feel the saw in your hand. Try to drop it from knee height and see if it comes apart right away. Saws need to be tough since they are construction tools after all. See if the blade assembly is stable during operation and will not fall apart during operation.

The Milwaukee 6394 goes toe-to-toe with Makita – even in price. It falters slightly with lower (but still adequate) cutting depth and doesn’t have a cutline blower. The pivoting handle is compelling, but our team doesn’t think it’s a huge difference-maker in the long run. At the end of the day, it’s a quality choice, especially if you find it on sale. Professionals and those who would like to do some hobbies with the use of the right tools. The right tool may be a circular saw power tool. Before starting a cut, it is important to set the proper blade depth since it will minimize kickback. The tool is equipped with a depth adjustment lever that will enable you to easily adjust the depth of cut. When the blade is set at 45 degrees, it offers 1-7/8 inches depth of cut. At 50 degrees you get 1-5/8″ maximum cut. The depth of cut at 90 degrees is 2-7/16″.

A few users have commented on this model being slightly noisy, but interestingly most of those mentioned it in passing, not as a criticism since they were so pleased with the performance. In fact ICe went on to say “it is kind of noisy but hey, better to hear the power on this monster that to have a wimpy quiet one right? ^_^ Buy it, you wont regret it. ” Bosch CS5 Circular Saw Review
I have really enjoyed my new circular saw since my skil saw bit the dust. I have remodeled a commercial office, and built some wainscoting with it and can now give it favorable reviews. I like the left blade for better sight of your cut line. I has plenty of power, and is easy to use. It follows a clamp-and-cut straight edge well, and easily breaks down sheet goods for cutting at the tablesaw. It doesn’t have a safety switch on the trigger, but I always use the blade guard so it wo...

The SKIL 5280 7-1/4 inch circular saw is a great partner for those people who need powerful circular saws with advanced features. It comes with 15A motor that provides the power you need to easily cut lumber. The single beam laser guide is equipped for the sole purpose of accuracy while the line of cut is kept clear and sawdust-free by the integrated dust blower. The bevel makes a positive stop at 45 degrees giving various cut options. The blades are made easily replaceable by a spindle lock and on-tool wrench.
I love the left side view of the blade and will only buy this style in the future even if I have to accept a complete saw-dusting of my clothes. I spent a good amount of time cutting specially ordered tough 1" Baltic Birch plywood using a Freud 60T blade and the power is fine for about 1" per second. While overall this saw is good for the home user I think the quality is lacking for the more picky. The problem is that there is considerable flex in the platform (even with the set screw adjusted) and there is about 0.5mm of play in the motor shaft which translates into much more play at blade edge. Even at this price such slop in the motor seems excessive. I am admittedly looking for more precision since I am finding a circular saw with a good self made rip fence to be superior to my table saw. If I could make the purchase again I would perhaps look at the Bosch 1677MD to see if the precision is better. Bosch CS5 Dust Collection
The Bosch CS5 120 Circular Saw is the fastest cutting saw in its class. It easily rips a wide variety of sheet material down to size quickly and accurately. The left hand sided blade is perfect for right hand sided users, allowing them full view of the cutting site at all times.

Whether it’s new construction or maintenance, many jobs require drilling holes in concrete. Selecting the right tool for the job is critical, but making the right choice can be complicated. Types of tools, bit holding systems and drill bit types, as well as nature of the job that needs to be done and availability of electric power – these are some of the variables that need to be taken into consideration.
Most Pros are pretty set in their ways when it comes to blade-left or blade-right circular saws. And it’s not simply a “righties want blade-left and lefties want blade-right” discussion. Clint and I are both righties – I prefer blade-left and he prefers blade-right. However, direct drive (sidewinder) circular saws like these are traditionally blade-right, but a few are bucking the trend. So whichever you like, here’s a quick list of where each one falls. A:  If it’s not cutting square this can be a few things. The first to check would be to ensure the bevel is set to 0° on your bevel adjustment. Then check if the blade is secure and not damaged or warped. If all else checks out, then you might need to make a bevel adjustment to return it to square. This video gives a good example of how you would need to do this. Bosch CS5 Review

When beginning your search for the best circular saw for you, there is one thing you will notice right away…the distinctions between circular saws aren’t always obvious. You can find one circular saw and think “looks good to me”, and right next to it is another and nothing seems noticeably different. Yet, there is a one hundred dollar price difference.
